About 35 km west of Pedregal Ecolodge, passing Urubamba, is the district and town of Ollantaytambo, famous for its ruins and also as the starting point of the famous Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. The place stands out for its numerous terraces, some agricultural, and others to avoid landslides. The town of Ollantaytambo is known for its beautiful stone streets, different restaurants and cafés, and its archeological history.
El centro arqueológico forma uno de los complejos arquitectónicos más monumentales e imponentes del antiguo imperio inca. Comúnmente llamado “Fortaleza” debido a la magnitud de los edificios, era un Tambo, un alojamiento urbano, estratégicamente ubicado para dominar el Valle Sagrado de los Incas. De todas las construcciones, destacan el impresionante templo del Sol y sus gigantes monolitos. De los numerosos sitios arqueológicos incas en la región de Cusco, el de Ollantaytambo es el más emblemático.
