Passing Calca, en route to Cusco, rests the prestigious town of Pisac, divided into the old part in height and the current one, in the valley, dating from the colonial era. Its main square is an entertaining place full of color and various handmade items for sale. On Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday the town is blessed with a large fair, where locals sell crafts, food and typical drinks. This town is also known for its astronomical observatory.
4 km higher up, some Incan roads lead up through mountain and asphalted road to the great archaeological site of Pisac, providing an incredible view over the Sacred Valley. Here you can see the largest andenería of the valley, with about forty steps, still used by the locals for their various crops. Of the many constructions within this place, the imposing imperial palace stands out. You can also see how little is left of what was the largest and oldest Incan cemetery in South America.
