About 35 km west of Pedregal Ecolodge, passing Urubamba, is the district and town of Ollantaytambo, famous for its ruins and also as the starting point of the famous Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. The place stands out for its numerous terraces, some agricultural, and others to avoid landslides. The town of Ollantaytambo is known for its beautiful stone streets, different restaurants and cafés, and its archeological history.

The archaeological center forms one of the most monumental and imposing architectural complexes of the ancient Inca empire. Commonly called "Fortress" because of the magnitude of the buildings, it was a Tambo, a city-lodging, strategically located to dominate the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Of all the constructions, the impressive temple of the Sun and its giant monoliths stand out. Of the numerous Inca archeological sites in the Cusco region, that of Ollantaytambo is the most emblematic.
