This almost unknown route is perfect for those who want to take advantage of the magnificence of the Sacred Valley of the Incas without being disturbed by mass tourism. After a short trip by bus, one can visit the city of Ollantaytambo, its terraces and its many impressive archaeological sites. From there comes a narrow stony path that ascends more than 1000 meters before reaching the Puerta del Sol, former place of worship and ceremonies. It takes about four hours of walking up, and if you're sensitive to height or are not used to climbing, go slowly! One reaches 3900 meters above sea level. In addition to ruins, you can enjoy an amazing view of the valley and of the snowy Veronica Mountain, overlooking Ollantaytambo with its almost 5700 meters above sea level height.
